Deadness and Quickening (PASSAGE) - C.H. Spurgeon Sermon
A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Thursday evening, October 29th 1885.
Spurgeon shows us our need of God. The Lord alone can turn our eyes away from sin and give us life. He alone can work in us ‘to will and to do of His good pleasure’ (Philippians 2:13).
Spurgeon refers more than once to the words that Bunyan heard, when he was a young man, as he was playing a game of ‘Tip Cat’, on the Lord's day, on the village green at Elstow, Bedfordshire: “Wilt thou leave thy sins, and go to heaven? Or have thy sins, and go to hell?”

Secret Sins (Psalm 19:12) - C.H. Spurgeon Sermon
Переглядів 3,9 тис.11 годин тому
A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Lord's day morning, February 8th 1857. Spurgeon was very gifted in exposing human weakness, and in pleading with sinners and saints. Here he begs us to get rid of everything that offends God, however hidden from others our sins may be. Surely if everyone followed his advice here, our souls would flourish as they have ever done before. Read by: Gavin Childres...

He leads us by the hand to examine the beauty and permanence of God’s everlasting Covenant with His people...

A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Thursday evening, November 14th 1889. Here Spurgeon was about to embark upon a special week of mission and outreach. He shows the importance of God going before us, and our following after. David had to wait for “the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees” and so must we wait for the blessing of the Holy Sirit in all that we seek to do. Read by: ...

A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Lord's day evening September 20th 1885. Guile is defined as: “the quality of being good at deceiving people in a clever way.” (Collins Dictionary). A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Lord's day morning, 12th June 1864. Spurgeon was never afraid to handle unusual subjects. Here he supposes that there could be a choice between the continued presence of the Lord Jesus upon earth, or the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The preacher seeks to show the infinite wisdom of God in choosing the latter course. We long to see our Lord, and to walk wit...
Lecture: Commentating on Scripture - C.H. Spurgeon

A Lecture delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, When the Bible is read well, aloud, to a congregation before a sermon, great blessings occur. It is a vital part of our worship services. Yet Spurgeon almost never read a passage of Scripture to his congregation without giving a running commentary on the text. This habit is rare, as many believe that Scripture speaks for itself and needs no such commentary....

A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Sunday December 14th 1862. Here Spurgeon uses allegory, in a style not dissimilar to Pilgrim’s Progress. He describes a prison with different categories of sinners kept within. He shows how sin enslaves us and destroys our joy. Jesus is the Liberator, but so many do not see how near He is, and how swift their freedom might come if they only looked to Him! Re...

CHS does it again, a sermon with so much profundity you have to listen to it more than once. The analogy of the tree in the empty basket with are coming to understand the gospel and accept it as a great analogy also the old fashioned well with a bucket. I'm surprised CHS didn't get into criticizing business when he started talking about the personal afflictions brought upon some people in order to get them to recognize or look to Jesus/God. And now over a hundred years down the road from the time CHS delivered this sermon when he started talking about the lung disease that some people were suffering in England and likely all over the Commonwealth of British territories and likely the world with the progression of so-called technological progress based on the beginnings of fossil fuel as the main source of energy that mankind would rely on. And now it seems that we all look at this as a great blessing but I feel that some of the scripture in the book of Jeremiah where we are told that what appears to be a blessing turns out to be a curse or a method that God is using to get our attention. Think of all the complications we have today due to the burning of fossil fuels and even if we switch to nuclear we will still have difficulties because whatever we do after we were thrown out of the garden God did curse the land as I understand it. So all of this time that mankind has been alive is a lesson and we have a difficult time learning and accepting the lesson of relying on God and always seem to think that we're going to work things out maybe with our technology and our weapons of war we will bring peace and prosperity the mankind which is to me an incredible deception that we buy into and some of the people that claim to be Christians are some of the biggest buyers of this deception.

You don't have to "hate sin", but recognize it as a part of the human aspect of creation; which we came to this earth to overcome. To overcome sin with hatred or anger is simply impossible, like fighting fire with fire. Jesus taught the way of leaning on God and prayer for strength. You don't fight negativity, you just let it go. (turn the other cheek) (Neither do I condemn you) ♥

I'm not sure but it could be the trees represent the Christian denominations. It does seem that there is a scripture that mentions taking the ax to trees that do not produce good fruit. Possibly some other verses also indicate trees represent Christian denominations. Is it possible that rustling of the leaves in the tops of the trees is the leadership of denominations being agitated or disturbed or in a state of flux. And this condition possibly due to a lack of relying on God to lead. This may sound rather outrageous but it does seem that historic incidents of the Old Testament are prophetic for our time in addition to their historicity. And today it does seem that there is a lot of disturbance in all denominations and many more denominations than any time in the past it seems. I usually have to listen to a CHS sermon several times and each time I get something new out of it as CHS is often what I would call profound with his sermons. This seems reasonable to me as he is attempting to explain the most profound book ever. This sermon brings to mind my own experience. Events in my life for which now I see was a leading by God as they have no other explanation that I can see unless I accept everything to be as darwinians would say completely random and meaningless in and of themselves but leading to a well adapted eventuality. Which to me makes absolutely no sense when I now consider my experiences in terms of the Bible as God's word. But more so, I would say that as our understanding of what I would call the hard Sciences, such as math, biology and physics are also beginning to show the weakness of an already poorly developed Theory. That is, Darwin's theory on the origin of species. I am not aware of how Darwin proposed to prove this Theory which methods for testing and proving should be part of a good theory.

Thank you and very nice that you have recorded the sermons. Generally I really like to listen to Charles Spurgeon sermons and it seems that his interpretation or explanation of the Bible seems very likely to be accurate but on this particular sermon I am coming to have some disagreement with his understanding. The verse which CHS ends with does sound rather final and possibly induces some additional sense of fear in the hearer. But there are so many indications of God's love and intent for none to perish and it makes me think of how many people who were deaf to the truth and blind to seeing the truth and their minds never could comprehend the truth and so will be given the opportunity to hear the truth and respond to it. It also seems that the Bible indicates that when New Jerusalem comes down in the Book of Revelation the immense size of that City will be able to accommodate a very large number of inhabitants. Some people have tried to estimate how many people have been alive on the Earth thus far and come up with a number like 125 billion which would be a small fraction of the available space to be occupied in New Jerusalem. It also seems likely that even if mankind is in existence for another thousand years in the way we're going this still would not provide full occupancy of New Jerusalem if all the people were to be accepted into the kingdom of God. I know I'm being highly speculative here but it's some interesting things to think about. Plus I think of all the people in my family, my being the only one of about 20 or so people in the family that seems to have come to understand what it means to recognize Jesus Christ as Savior and God is sovereign and the Holy Spirit as the third part of the godhead. So when I look back at that it just seems that most of my family were very ignorant of what the Bible said if any of them even read it at all which I think they did not. My being the first one that I know of. so in that sense maybe they will be still given an opportunity in a resurrection to be presented with an opportunity to either accept or reject Jesus Christ as Savior.
